Rapid Sites

I offer two web design packages for small-scale websites.
 
My mission is to help you create a website that suits you and your audience, sells you well, and lets you be found quickly. Those are the basics. If your site isn’t doing that – or doesn’t exist – you are likely to be losing out to competitors who are no better than you, but just have a more convincing web presence.
 
The Rapid Site Makeover package is for people who already have a site, but it needs some work. The Rapid Site Setup package (further down this page) is for people who don’t have a website at present.
 

 

Rapid Site Makeover

You already have a website, but you’re not happy with it. Maybe your brother-in-law made it for you, or you put it together yourself three years ago. Unfortunately, now it’s out of date. It doesn’t seem to represent your business any more, and you’re ashamed of showing it to other people. You may be spending lots of time tinkering with it that would be much better spent on your main business. Trouble is, you don’t know any affordable designers, and you’ve fallen out with your brother-in-law.

My Makeover service brings you up to date at an affordable price.

How does it work?

The first part is about understanding you and your site. We talk about your work and your current website, so that I get a clear understanding of what you do and what you’d like to achieve. I also carry out a mini-review of your current site.

Depending on your issues, I’ll recommend a refresh or a redesign.
In the second part, we make it happen.

Refresh

For the Refresh, I come in and fix all the little things that need doing in order to take your site from slightly sad to absolutely sparkling. This is likely to involve:

- Updating your software
- Making sure that your customers can find you
- Checking that your content works on all the main browsers
- Making your typeface easier to read
-Editing content
- Adding new images, such as a new header image and some photos
- Spotting and fixing the little things that lower your credibility

I also work with you to develop a three-month follow-up plan for your site updates, whether that’s news, announcements or blog posts.

The cost of Refresh is £500, including the strategy session, implementation, and follow-up plan. Strategy sessions by themselves are £150. (For international customers: that’s approximately $770 and $230 depending on exchange rates).

Redesign

Sometimes it’s easier to start from scratch than tweak something which isn’t really working. For example, you might have an old site which you can’t update yourself. In this case, we can create a new design using a system which will be easy to update, and then transfer your old content over to it.

Redesign costs start from £650 for a small site, including the initial strategy session. If I believe a redesign is the best way forward, I’ll give you some options on how to move forward. We then talk about the content (what’s working and what is not) and the site appearance. We’ll talk about possible design routes, and go from there.

Rapid Site Setup

You need a new website badly. You’ve needed it for a while now, but you don’t know any reasonably-priced designers, and doing it yourself is proving painful. You don’t know what to write, you don’t have any good photos and talk of coding makes your head hurt.

What if you could have a professional-looking website sorted out in a couple of weeks or less?

Let’s do it.

I will make you a nice-looking small website. We’ll take all the material you already have, and turn it into an effective, professional-looking web presence. If there is important stuff missing, I’ll personally interview you and then write your pages for you. (You can always change it later)

Core package:

• Website setup, including name and web hosting if required
• 5-6 page website including Homepage, About, Contact, Services and Blog/News
• Blog style or classic website style
• Using your photos plus a small number of additional (non-cheesy) stock photos
• Using your words, polished for the web by me
• With a follow-up plan for maintaining the site

How it works:

• You email me with a short description of your business and your customers, websites you like, and what you’d like your site to do for you
• We talk on the phone to check whether we’re a good fit for each other
• I send you an outline plan including my website questionnaire, to get you thinking about the content you’ll need, together with a shortlist of suggested website looks
• You send me your content answers, together with your payment, and I get started
• I send you a mockup of the site design, for comments
• Once we’ve agreed the basic look, I get to work adding all the content
• You review the site and suggest final changes
• Site is complete and goes live

Costs: From £650 for a basic 6-page site. (Or approximately $1,000 for international customers).

What’s extra:
Finding a website domain name and hosting company: add £100 (includes one year’s hosting and domain name costs)

Stock photos: add £10-40

Premium WordPress theme: theme costs vary, but you can usually get a good one under £80

What if I hate writing, or have terrible photos?

I’ll write the content with you. I’ll interview you (on the phone or in person), gather all your existing marketing materials together, and write it up for you.
 
If you’re local, I’ll also come armed with my digital camera so that I can take some nice photos to put on the site. (They won’t be perfect, but they’ll be fine). Add: £350.

The Makeover and Rapid Setup services are for you if:

• You want to get your site up and running quickly
• You want something that is nice-looking and professional
• You are reasonably decisive and can come up with all your materials pretty quickly
• You like to work in partnership, and you’re keen to learn

This is probably not for you if:

• You need an e-commerce site
• You don’t have time to get your content together
• You take a committee-like approach to approving changes
• At heart, you need a Rolls-Royce approach.
